Tuscan
Affair April 2004
Taking
a break from orchestrating "Russian Dance",
I decided to write something as it has been a while
since I’ve written anything from scratch.
Writer’s block often plagues my existence.
When I sit in front of the keyboard I become overwhelmed
with “Where do I begin?” To tackle this
problem I decided I would come up with a name for
the new composition and write music to the emotion
conveyed in the name. “ Notting Hill”
was my choice.
The harp was as good an instrument to start with
as any. After a few passes the entrance to the song
began. I added counter-melodies and harmony and
I was pleasantly surprised with the fullness I was
able to achieve with the orchestra tutti (playing
in unison) on the chorus.
Upon completion the title “Notting Hill”
seemed lackluster and the name “Tuscan Affair”
took its place.
